Technology Competencies: Local Knowledge

This libguide contains a list of newly updated technology competencies for NC library staff. The competencies were revised by the State Library's Continuing Education Advisory Committee in 2015.

1 Local knowledge Know the URL for the Library’s website 
1 Local knowledge Know rules of conduct for staff regarding email and computer usage 
1 Local knowledge Be familiar with the library’s presence on social networking sites.
2 Local knowledge Know and be able to explain internet use policy for the public
2 Local knowledge Use and troubleshoot local workstation/printer management software
2 Local knowledge Know how to submit a Help Desk ticket
2 Local knowledge Access and navigate any available LMS (e.g. Blackboard, Moodle)
2 Local knowledge Know and assist others in connecting to the library’s wireless and wireless printing
2 Local knowledge Familiar with the features of assistive and adaptive technologies available for special needs patrons
2 Local knowledge Locate, set up, operate, and troubleshoot all A/V equipment available at the library location
2 Local knowledge Set up computer lab for training class and know computer lab capabilities
3 Local knowledge Demonstrate and assist patrons in using computers and resources (workstation log-in, software applications, Internet use, databases, etc.), both one-on-one and in small groups
3 Local knowledge Demonstrate and assist patrons in using MS Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher) and specialized Office Suite templates 
3 Local knowledge Apply knowledge of MS Office Suite applications to assist with similar web-based applications such as Open Office and Google Drive
