Technology Competencies: Software Tools/Content Creation

This libguide contains a list of newly updated technology competencies for NC library staff. The competencies were revised by the State Library's Continuing Education Advisory Committee in 2015.

Suggested Level Category Required Knowledge/Skill
1 Software tools & content creation Be familiar with popular web-based tools for communication, collaboration, file-sharing, and storage such as Google Drive, Google Apps & Google products, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, OfficeOnline, Flikr, etc.
2 Software tools & content creation Understand different word processing file types (.doc, .rtf, .txt)
2 Software tools & content creation Use basic templates available in the MS Office Suite
2 Software tools & content creation Know how to use and help others use the following word processing features and functions: insert & edit text; change font and font size; align text left, right & center; format text in bold, italic, underline or subscript; change line spacing; change margins; cut, copy & paste; use spell check; copy text from the web into Word and remove extraneous web-based formatting and content 
2 Software tools & content creation Apply knowledge of MS Word to assist others with similar web-based word processing applications (Open Office, Google Drive, OfficeOnline, etc.)
2 Software tools & content creation Know how to use common web-based tools like Google calendar, Google docs, Dropbox, and OfficeOnline for creating and sharing events and files.
