This guide is made to accompany the completion of the North Carolina Freedom Park, located in downtown Raleigh. Designed to highlight the contributions of African Americans in North Carolina history, Freedom Park was created "by the people, for the people!" The 20-year project, involving community, state government, and private support, gives visitors a chance to reflect on the idea of freedom for not only African Americans, but for all who live within North Carolina and the rest of the United States.

This guide contains information about the creation of the park and its board members, an overview of African American history in North Carolina, and the themes of freedom as they relate to culture, education, and business and law.
