North Carolina state government creates a budget, collects revenue from many sources, and spends money to provide services to citizens. Several North Carolina state agencies perform the budget and financial management functions for North Carolina state government. This guide focuses on those state agencies and their financial publications. These agencies produce the publications that ensure the transparency of the state's finances. North Carolina's fiscal year begins July 1st of each each year and ends the following June 30th. All financial reporting is for the 12 months between July 1st and June 30th.
To better understand the financial reports, see the glossary of budget terms.
